Ayodhya

The city of Ayodhya is regarded as sacred – the birthplace of Raama. In 1528, General Mir Banki reportedly destroyed a temple of Raama and built Babri Masjid, naming it after Mughal Emperor Babur. However, both Hindus and Muslims used the site for religious purposes even as fanatics from both sides fought.

On December 6, 1992, the BJP organized a religious ceremony to reclaim the sacred land by building a temple as its political campaign, which led to the Babri Masjid demolition and communal riots, causing the death of at least 2,000 people… most of whom were Muslims.

Ayodhya, the movie is a fictional Shakespearean drama on a battle for politics, power, pride, land, and a woman, with the worst religious warfare in contemporary political history of India.
